The Houston Bonsai Society ("HBS") is an organization which has promoted the art of Bonsai in the Greater Houston Area for over 20 years. The general membership is a strong following of around 150 bonsai
enthusiasts who meet the first Wednesday of each month to enjoy a variety of programs. In addition, HBS regularly sponsors several other educational and fun events which offer year round activities for anyone who appreciates the art of bonsai, regardless of experience level or degree of involvement. If one is interested in bonsai, joining HBS opens a world of opportunities.
HBS is a member of a federation of clubs in Texas called the Lone
Star Bonsai Federation ("LSBF"). Working with other LSBF
clubs, resources are generated and pooled to fund many of the
exciting HBS sponsored events. Most important probably are the
workshops and lecture demonstrations given by visiting Bonsai
Masters from around the world. Next is HBS participation in or
hosting of an annual state convention and show of Texas artists'
trees. In addition, twice a year, in Houston, there is a show of
Houston artists' trees to the general public, usually in the Spring
and Fall.
Bonsai
is a rewarding and fulfilling pursuit that can provide many years of
artistic expression, a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction,
camaraderie with other practitioners, and can teach patience, love
of nature, and calmness of mind.
